saibl is in the process of developing a web-based knowledge management and sharing platform, SASDCnet, that will enable the members of the South African Supplier Diversity Council (SASDC) to leverage knowledge and increase the dissemination of experiences and best practices. The web-based platform will synchronize partner, staff and consultant activities and assists the collaboration between units in different locations.
The objective is to establish a tool and an accompanying methodology that enables the SASDC to implement and manage standardized products and processes. The platform will help to deliver expertise, tools and services efficiently and effectively to a network of partners and independent consultants serving SMEs and to staff members through a secure online system.
It will include the following components:
- Administrative tools (including statistics and controls);
- Database and profiles of certified and linkage-ready BEE SMEs;
- Database and profiles of Business Service Providers;
- Reports on sectors, clusters, etc.;
- Tools and services, including training courses;
- Best practices library;
- Internal-external bulletin board and news;
- Links to member / partner websites; and
- Comment / feedback area.
The portal will be a critical tool in ensuring the sustainability and continuity of services the SASDC offers to its members. Since many projects have closed without leaving behind a method of sharing information, a great deal of valuable knowledge and lessons learnt have been lost. The lack of an institutional framework and knowledge management and sharing platform on which to continue the network and links also results in partners and stakeholder losing contact, and the unravelling of seemingly sound and valuable relations. The establishment of this portal is a modest but meaningful investment in this effort to pull all of the components together and bind the links between them.
